Here is all you need to download and install the latest update of our Rainbow Analyst spreadsheet audit add-in:
Version 24.11.2
Release date 16 November 2024
30-Day Free Trial
Simple installation
If you’re new to Rainbow Analyst, you’ll need to start by installing a 30-day free trial. This is a fully functional version, and you can simply purchase a licence to continue using it beyond the end of the trial period.
Click the button below, then double-click the downloaded RainbowPro.msi file to install Rainbow. Next time you start Excel, just click the Rainbow tab to access all of Rainbow’s functions.
And if you already have a current Rainbow licence, you can download and run the same RainbowPro.msi installer file to upgrade to the latest version of Rainbow. All your existing licence details will be preserved.
Corporate Environments
If you work in a corporate environment where IT policies prevent you from downloading the installer file, you may be able to download a version named “RainbowPro.msi.deletethis”. You will need to delete the “.deletethis” file extension and then run the file. If this does not work, you will need to talk with your IT support team.
Clean Up Other Copies
Rainbow is sometimes installed in an XLSTART folder where it will start up automatically even when not listed as an add-in. This can cause conflicts if it is later installed as a normal add-in. If you think Rainbow may be installed in an XLSTART folder on your system, you can use the clean-up version of the installer to remove any such duplicate copies of the Rainbow file.
Re-Installing Previous Versions
Manual installation
Rainbow Add-In File
If you can’t use the Rainbow installer (for instance if you need to re-install an older version of Rainbow), then you can install the Rainbow add-in file yourself by following the 3 steps shown here.
Step 1: Download the Rainbow add-in file
Decide which version of Rainbow Analyst you wish to install, and download the corresponding add-in file from here:
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 24.1 – 20/02/2024
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 12.6 – 06/12/2023
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 12.5 – 18/08/2022
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 12.4 – 25/05/2022
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 12.3 – 04/08/2021
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 12.2 – 10/07/2021
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 12.1 – 20/04/2021
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 12.0 – 19/12/2020
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 11.4 – 17/03/2020
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 11.3 – 24/07/2019
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 11.2 – 26/12/2018
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 11.1 – 30/07/2018
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 11.0 – 05/06/2018
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 10.1 – 14/11/2017
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 10.0 – 13/11/2016
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 9.3 – 19/03/2016
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 8.2 – 16/01/2015
- Rainbow Analyst Professional 7.2 – 11/02/2014
Step 2: Copy the file to your add-ins folder and delete any old files
If your computer runs Microsoft Windows 8 or later, your Excel add-ins folder should be This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > [User Name] > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > AddIns (substitute your Windows user name for [User Name]).
If you cannot see the AppData folder under your user name folder, this means that you need to enable Windows to show hidden files and folders. First you will need to open File Explorer and click View and then the Options button, which will bring up the Folder Options dialog box.
In the Folder Options dialog box, click the View tab, then in the Advanced settings box, under Hidden files and folders, click “Show hidden files, folders and drives”. Click OK, then close and reopen File Explorer, and you will see the AppData folder.
Once you have copied the Rainbow add-in file to your Excel add-ins folder, check for any other Rainbow add-in files in the same folder, e.g. RainbowPro.xlam, and delete them.
Step 3: Activate the Rainbow add-in from within Excel
Once you have copied the Rainbow add-in file into your Excel add-ins folder as described above, you will need to activate the Rainbow add-in from within Excel. First start Excel, and then:
- Click the File tab (the Office Button in Excel 2007) and then click (Excel) Options.
- Click the Add-Ins category.
- In the Manage box, click Excel Add-Ins and then click Go.
- In the Add-Ins available box, select the check box next to Rainbow Pro, and then click OK.
You should now see the Rainbow tab on your Excel ribbon menu. And if you find that the add-in is still not working, visit the Frequently Asked Questions on our Support page for further information.
Next Steps
Licensing
Buying And Activating Your Licence
After you purchase a Rainbow Analyst licence from our online store, you’ll receive an email from us (normally within one working day) setting out your licence key, and the name and email address that are linked to this key.
To activate your new licence, go to the Rainbow tab in Excel and click under the User Guide icon. Then click About Rainbow, and enter the name, email address, and licence key where indicated. Click OK, and you’re all set!
And after one or two years when your licence runs out, you can simply buy an upgrade licence from our store to continue receiving support and the latest Rainbow Analyst updates.
Rainbow licences are “per user” rather than “per machine”. So you can install your licence on more than one machine, provided that only you will use it. Your licence entitles you to one or two years of support (via email) and upgrades starting from the date of purchase.
And all Rainbow licences include a perpetual licence, allowing you to continue to use the version of Rainbow that was current when you were last entitled to support and upgrades. However, if you upgrade to a more recent version, it will install itself as a 30-day free trial (with no licence).
What Your Licence Gives You
Corporate Licences And Deployment
If there will be 10 or more Rainbow users in your organisation, it will be most economical to purchase a corporate Rainbow licence. This typically covers 20-30 users at a single site, but please contact us to discuss your specific requirements. And if you require a (proforma) invoice in order to generate a purchase order, we will be happy to provide this.
Many of our larger customers are deploying Rainbow remotely using tools such as Microsoft SCCM or InTune. The Rainbow MSI installer file can be run in silent mode for this purpose, and we have compiled a Managed Deployment Guide with further details. Again please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Your Rights
Refund policy
When you purchase a licence for Rainbow, what you get from us is simply a licence key; we don’t ship a physical product that you can send back to us if you’re not satisfied with it. This is why we don’t make refunds; because it would be very easy for someone to claim a refund and then just continue to use the licence key. And the reality is that none of our customers has ever demanded a refund.
Of course you will have had a good opportunity to test Rainbow for yourself during the 30-day free trial period. But if after purchasing your own licence you come across something in Rainbow that you’re not happy with, please check out our Support page, and if you don’t find the answer there then do contact us at support@themodelanswer.com. We’ll be very happy to hear your feedback and help resolve any problems!
